School Audition Grants

Break Barriers, Hit the Stage: Our School Audition Grants Program

Dreaming of a spotlight on the music theatre stage but daunted by the audition fees? We’re here to help lower those barriers. As found in a survey run by Be You Group, Educational barriers and financial constraints serve as major concerns for many performers, cited by 26% and 14% of respondents, respectively.

Auditioning for performing arts universities can be costly, with fees reaching up to $100 per school. For aspiring stars applying to multiple schools, these fees quickly add up, and they’re not covered by HECS- or FEE-HELP loans.

We understand that talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. That’s why our School Audition Grants are designed to support young performers who face financial hardships that could hinder their dreams of studying at top performing arts schools.

Our grantees like Jacob Steen and Ellie Chan, who have graced stages in major productions like Groundhog Day and Miss Saigon, are proof that with a little help, big dreams can come true.

We believe these fees are a large barrier to entry for people who are disadvantaged, and we want to help.

Who Can Apply?

If you’re applying to a course with Commonwealth supported places and facing financial challenges and/or are traditionally underrepresented in musical theatre, this grant is for you.

How It Works:

• Pre-Approval Phase: Secure early assurance to apply for multiple schools without the stress of upfront costs.

Need Assistance?

Don’t hesitate to ask for help right in the application form. We’re here to guide you through, ensuring you can present your best self to the panel.

How will we make the decision?

Our panel will assess your application based on your dedication to performing arts, the challenges you’ve faced, and the potential impact of the grant on your career.

Our decision making will be strictly in line with our Conflict of Interest policy in which, if a panel member has worked with an applicant in a meaningful way, or has a personal connection that makes the panel member biased, this panel member will declare their conflict and not be allowed to offer any advice on the selection of that applicant.

Join Us in Changing the Stage:

While we aim to support as many artists as possible, our ultimate goal is to encourage schools to eliminate these fees altogether. Until then, we’re committed to helping you launch your future in music theatre.
